Tummy Tuck
Achieving an attractive abdomen can be a daunting task. Even if you follow a healthy diet and consistent workout regimen, there’s no guarantee that you’ll end up satisfied with your results. Men and women of all ages seek out board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander for his expertise in abdominoplasty surgery. If you want to get rid of excess fat or skin on your abdomen, a tummy tuck may provide the best results for you.
Dr. Alexander offers abdominoplasty in Las Vegas for people looking to tighten their abdominal muscles and get toned contours with tummy tuck surgery.
What Does Tummy Tuck Surgery Do?
-
Removes Excess Skin and Fat
A tummy tuck permanently removes excess sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits. It improves the appearance of your abdomen by removing the lumps and rolls that often impact your aesthetic. By tightening your skin, the procedure also reduces wrinkles across your torso, though it cannot entirely remove stretch marks in most cases.
-
Creates a Flatter Abdomen
A flat stomach is often considered an important aspect of an attractive physique. Due to the removal of loose skin and fat deposits and the tightening of the muscle, your abdomen will become noticeably more flat after a tummy tuck. This may provide increased confidence in your appearance when going to the gym or beach, or participating in other outdoor activities.
-
Adjusts Abdominal Contours
A tummy tuck procedure can change your abdomen’s overall shape and help you achieve an ideal hourglass shape. By targeting specific areas for removal of fat while leaving other areas untouched or lightly shaped, Dr. Alexander can create a new, more aesthetically appealing profile. Liposuction is often combined with tummy tuck surgery to enhance results further.
“Dr. Alexander and his staff are incredible. He is one of the most caring and professional surgeons I have ever met - and that is saying something because I work in a hospital. The staff is equally incredible and kind. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. 5 months ago Dr. Alexander performed a breast augmentation surgery and the results are so natural my friends did not even notice I am 3 cups bigger! I have already referred Dr. Alexander to close friends. He is the best in the Valley.”
“Doctor Alexander is a miracle and made my experience exceptional, he really listened to my concerns and answered all my questions regarding the whole procedure. He made my breasts look like sisters again, I would even recommend him to my daughter and anyone looking for a breast augmentation or exchange. He is not your typical plastic surgeon and he really cares about your outcome. He is the best!!”
Have More Concerns About Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Recovery
A compression garment will be placed around your midsection immediately after your surgery. Most patients return to work and resume their normal routine within one to two weeks, although physical activity and exercise should be avoided.
Light exercise is resumed around the fourth week as your results become more apparent. However, strenuous physical activity should still be limited.
By the sixth month, occasionally up to one year, following your operation, you should see your final results. You can expect your new contours to last as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Scars
Scarring will develop after a tummy tuck surgery. Your scars’ size and location will vary depending on the tummy tuck technique you and your plastic surgeon agree upon. Your scars may be tender for at least six weeks; however, by a year (rarely two years) after your surgery, your scars will have faded to the degree that they will. The degree to which scars fade varies depending on the patient. Most scars will be easily concealed with clothing or properly fitted bathing suits.
Cost
A tummy tuck cost may vary depending on the location, surgical facility, surgical fees, anesthesia fees, and complexity of the procedure. For this reason, each operation is individually priced somewhat differently. Dr. Alexander’s staff will give you a personalized quote for your specific operation during your consultation.
Comfort
You may experience minor pain and discomfort following your gynecomastia procedure. Dr. Alexander will provide you with post-operative instructions to ensure that your healing process runs smoothly.
Mild to moderate pain may occur during your recovery period. Dr. Alexander has incorporated a dual anesthetic to enhance post-op comfort. A compression garment will be provided to you to ensure your incisions are protected. Pain medication will be prescribed and may be used on an as-needed basis during your recovery.
FAQ About Tummy Tuck Surgery
-
The ideal candidate for a tummy tuck operation is a non-smoker in good health who is unhappy with the appearance of their midsection. The tummy tuck is most beneficial when a patient is within 15 pounds of their realistic ideal final weight.
-
The operation is performed under general anesthesia, so you should feel no pain during the surgery itself. Dr. Alexander has incorporated long-acting numbing medicine injected while patients are asleep to enhance post-op comfort. Mild to moderate pain is common during the first week or two following your procedure usually well controlled with prescription medication.
-
You should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medicines, aspirin or other blood thinners, or herbal supplements that may increase the risk of bleeding for at least two weeks before and four to six weeks after your operation. You should also stop smoking at this time and be smoke free for at least six weeks post-op. Consult with your doctor to ensure none of these preparatory steps will place you in medical distress.
-
A tummy tuck already includes skin removal surgery, fat removal surgery and often abdominal muscle tightening surgery. You may choose to add breast lift or augmentation, a thigh lift or an arm lift to your operation. Some women also choose to include a tummy tuck in their Mommy Makeover.
-
The physical results of abdominoplasty surgery are permanent, but they do not stop the natural aging process or prevent additional weight gain. Therefore, your results will fade over time as you age. Significant weight changes or pregnancy may also alter the appearance of your abdominal area and reduce the effects of the tummy tuck surgery.

All surgeries come with some unavoidable risks. Fortunately, Dr. Alexander’s 20 plus years of experience has contributed to his overall low risk in healthy patients following his advice (i.e. post-op activity restrictions, etc). Dr. Alexander does his best to mitigate risk, but there is always the possibility of complications leading to effects such as:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Skin discoloration
- Prolonged swelling
- Unfavorable scarring
- Persistent pain as a result of nerve damage
- Poor reaction to anesthesia
