Experience matters. A thigh lift tightens the skin around the inner thigh to form a more aesthetically pleasing result.
Thigh lift is often performed on patients who have recently lost a significant amount of weight as a result of diet and exercise or from bariatric surgery. Weight loss often leaves the skin loose and sagging, as it cannot properly constrict to the new contour of the thigh.
This procedure may be performed alone, or in combination with other cosmetic procedures, such as part of a body lift or with a buttock lift. When combined with other procedures, patients can achieve maximum results and enjoy a younger and more refreshed appearance overall. Dr. Alexander takes the time to discuss each patient’s personal goals before surgery in order to help them achieve the best possible results from a doctor they can trust.
The thigh lift procedure is ideal for patients who are in good general health but have excess skin and tissue within the thigh area as a result of the natural aging process, pregnancy or significant weight loss. A thigh lift should not be considered an easy weight loss solution, and is most effective on patients who are close to their ideal weight but unhappy with the appearance of their thighs.
This procedure is often combined with other treatments, such as a lower body lift or liposuction, to maximize results.
The thigh lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia and requires an incision in the groin area and sometimes extending downward around the back of the thigh or inner thigh, depending on the results desired by the patient. In an inner (medial) thigh lift, incisions are within the groin fold.
Dr. Alexander will remove any excess fat or skin and then tighten the tissues in the area to create a smoother and more toned contour. The incisions are closed with sutures and the patient will sometimes be asked to wear a compression garment in order to minimize swelling and promote proper healing.
Each thigh lift procedure is completely individualized for each patient, depending on their body, fat displacement and goals for surgery. With many years of experience, Dr. Alexander is able to develop a treatment plan that helps patients achieve the precise results they desire.
Allow yourself time to relax and heal. After surgery, patients may experience mild bruising, swelling and soreness. Discomfort is generally minimal in smaller lifts, but when large amounts of skin are removed, an overnight stay in an aftercare facility may be required. In either case, pain medication for comfort will be utilized. The results of the procedure will be visible right away and will continue to improve as swelling and other symptoms subside.
Light activity is usually possible after less than two weeks, while most physical activity is permissible at four to six weeks. All symptoms should be gone and scars maximally faded within one year.
The results of a thigh lift tend to be long-lasting, as long as patients maintain an active and healthy lifestyle after treatment. Significant weight gain after surgery will affect the results of the procedure.
