Q: I really want liposuction, but I have 10 more pounds before I reach my goal. Should I have surgery now?

A: It is recommended to be within 15-20lbs. of your ideal weight before having a surgical procedure for best long term results. Liposuction removes stubborn fat from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. Depending on the area being treated, you may feel a boost of confidence and motivation after surgery that will help you shed those final 10 lbs. You are the best person to answer that question.

Q: I heard that if you undergo liposuction that you can get lumps in the areas treated, is that true?

A: Dr. Alexander is a board certified plastic surgeon with over a decade of experience. His surgical technique and expertise decreases that chances of lumps appearing in long term results after surgery. It is normal to have some small lumps post liposuction due to residual edema or swelling that naturally takes time to resolve. Most often it is recommended to massage lotion of those areas to help it become smooth over time.
