6 Plastic Surgery Procedures Men Want
5 Minute Read:
While many people think that plastic surgery is meant only for women, the reality is that many men undergo cosmetic procedures to help postpone the effects of age and to correct aesthetic frustrations on various parts of their bodies.
In fact, each year, more and more men are having cosmetic surgeries performed. In 2020, over two million male cosmetic surgical procedures were performed. And it makes sense!
Just like women, men are self-conscious about their appearances. They want to look and feel their absolute best and know that plastic surgery is a way to accomplish this.
However, many men do not realize the aesthetic correction offered by plastic surgery. To help you better understand male cosmetic surgery, this blog will discuss seven of the most common, effective, and transformative surgical procedures that men can have to improve their aesthetic appearances while amping up their sense of comfort and confidence.
For years, liposuction surgery has been one of the most effective and trusted plastic surgery procedures for men and women. The reason for this is that liposuction removes pockets of unwanted fat from the body.
Men tend to carry fat in the midsection, chest, flanks (love handles), and neck. Liposuction can remove fat from each of these areas. Additionally (as you will see with some of the procedures we discuss below), liposuction can be used in many other plastic surgery procedures.
For this procedure, a small incision will be made in the treatment area. A thin tube called a cannula will be inserted through the incision to loosen up subcutaneous fat. Once the fat is loosened, it will be suctioned out of the body through the cannula. After liposuction, you can look forward to a more contoured physique.
As we age, we develop wrinkles, fine lines, and skin laxity in the face. This can cause men’s faces to look weathered and more worn-down than they want. However, facelift surgery is a procedure that helps to reduce skin creases and sagging skin in the lower two-thirds of the face (from the cheeks to the neck).
Depending on the extent of correction needed, incisions will be made on the sides of your face (from your temples) that extend down the profile of your face, ending in the lower scalp.
Dr. Alexander will reposition facial tissue and muscles to give you a more youthful structure. Excess skin will be trimmed, and the remaining skin will be pulled tight before the incisions are closed.
After your procedure, you can look forward to a more contoured and defined facial appearance that will have you smiling at your reflection.
3. Eyelid Surgery
While facelift surgery addresses age-related concerns in the lower face and midface, eyelid surgery helps address sagging skin in the eyelids as well as puffiness underneath the lower lids (bags under the eyes). These aesthetic issues can make men look older, angrier, and/or sleepier than they want to look.
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) removes excess tissue and fat in the eyelids while repositioning the remaining tissue to help your eyes shine.
Men can choose to have upper blepharoplasty, which addresses sagging skin in the upper eyelid; lower blepharoplasty, which corrects sagging skin and puffiness in the lower eyelid; or a combination of both. For upper blepharoplasty, the incision will be made in the natural crease of the eyelid, while lower blepharoplasty requires an incision beneath the lower lid.
Boys and men of all ages can undergo otoplasty (cosmetic ear surgery) to correct aesthetic concerns with the ears. The most common reasons for patients to undergo an otoplasty procedure is to correct ears that are too big for the face or ears that stick out too far from the side of the head.
With this procedure, Dr. Alexander will make incisions in the natural creases or folds behind the ear (which hides resulting scars). Then, depending on the correction needed, Dr. Alexander will sculpt and adjust the size, shape, and position of the ear(s) to help you achieve a more natural appearance, which will help to improve your entire facial appearance.
Rhinoplasty (cosmetic nose surgery) is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure each and every year for a reason. Since the nose is central to your face (literally), an unsightly nose can negatively affect your entire facial aesthetic. Whether you have a crooked nose (from birth or injury), a nose that’s too large or small for your face, or a nose with a hump, bump, or issue with the nasal tip, rhinoplasty can help you achieve a more natural-looking nose that compliments your entire face. For an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made on the columella, the area of skin between the nostrils.
6. Tummy Tuck
Whether you call it a beer gut, spare tire, or any other name, excess fat and sagging skin in the waist is a common cosmetic issue. Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess subcutaneous fat in the midsection and removes sagging skin in the abdomen and waist.
For this procedure, an incision will be made across your midsection, usually stretching from hip to hip. This incision is made just above the pubic area to hide the resulting scars. Liposuction is often used to remove stubborn fat in the area. Then, excess skin will be surgically removed, and the remaining skin will be pulled tight before the incisions are closed. This procedure can help men achieve that trim and toned physique that they can feel proud of.
Additionally, men who have undergone significant weight loss (whether by natural diet and exercise or bariatric surgery) often have significant and unsightly sagging skin that can make them feel embarrassed and self-conscious. For men with this aesthetic issue, post-weight loss plastic surgery can help remove the sagging skin in the abdomen.
