Breast Augmentation Incision Location Options
One of the most important factors to consider when undergoing breast augmentation surgery is the incision site. After the type of breast implant has been chosen – saline or silicone gel filled – the entry location must be determined. During an appointment at my Las Vegas practice, we can discuss your options and a personalized treatment plan can be created for you. Doing so can help achieve optimal results post-surgery. Surgeon experience matters for great results.
The most common incision location in my practice is under the breast in the crease, as it works well for the majority of my patients’ anatomy. This incision is suitable for both saline and silicone implants. The breast crease incision allows for greater visibility and control during the procedure, as well as more precise placement and symmetry. In addition, when using the crease incision, there appears to be a decreased chance of capsular contracture and an increased probability of long term “softness” to the breast. Once the incision has healed, there is an inconspicuous scar that usually can be easily hidden with a bra or bathing suit.
For those who prefer, and are good candidates for, I also offer the periareolar incision, which is made around the nipple. This incision location may be more appropriate for saline breast implants because they are filled during the procedure; silicone gel breast implants are pre-filled and may require a slightly larger opening for placement. Scarring from this incision is almost inconspicuous, which has made it quite popular with many patients.
Additional information regarding options with incision sites can be obtained during an initial consultation. I look forward to helping you meet your desired outcome.
