Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In the month of October, the nights grow longer, the air cooler, and pumpkin patches and hay rides spring up all around town. Halloween is on its way! This October, Dr. Alexander & Co. are proud supporters of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM).

Breast cancer is cancer that forms in tissues of the breast, usually the ducts (tubes that carry milk to the nipple) and lobules (glands that make milk). Although it is more common for women to be diagnosed with breast cancer, it can occur in both men and women. The NBCAM organization is a partnership of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to screening services.

Mammograms are currently the number one diagnostic test to check for breast cancer. If you are of age or candidacy, it is still safe to have your yearly mammograms if you have breast implants.
