New to Plastic Surgery? Here’s What You Need to Know About a Mommy Makeover

3 Minute Read:

Interested in plastic surgery? Maybe you want to get your groove back after pregnancy and nursing with a Mommy Makeover.

The Mommy Makeover is a combination breast and body contouring surgery that allows patients to address multiple problem areas in a single surgery (although some Mommy Makeovers may require a second surgery, depending on the extent of the operation,).

There are a couple of things you need to know before going forward with the procedure.

Are You Ready to Have Surgery?

Patients are advised to wait at least six months after delivery to have the surgery. Considering pregnancy and childbirth puts immense stress on your body, you will need to take some time to recover. You are also required to be finished breastfeeding.

The recovery for Mommy Makeover, which usually involves breast augmentation and/or breast lift surgery, tummy tuck surgery, and liposuction, can be significant, so your chances of healing comfortably will be better if you are not also recovering from pregnancy and childbirth.

Is Mommy Makeover Only for Mothers?

Being a mom isn’t a prerequisite for the surgery.

The changes in the body that come with pregnancy, such as sagging breasts and stubborn fat deposits or belly fat, aren’t exclusive to childbirth and breastfeeding mothers. It can happen to anyone. This combination is also appropriate for women who have lost significant weight or are dealing with an aging physique.

“Mommy Makeover” serves as a catch-all phrase referring to a combination of procedures performed to achieve the total body transformation you desire.

While the surgical procedure is popular among mothers seeking to restore their pre-pregnancy contours, non-mothers are also eligible.

Are You Close to Your Goal Weight?

The quality of your surgery outcome will depend on how close you are to your ideal weight.

If you are overweight or have gained a lot of weight during pregnancy, you should consider waiting until you lose the extra pounds to get the surgery. This is because losing that weight after surgery can result in loose or excess skin.

Additionally, patients who are obese have higher chances of complications, so it is in your best interest to be at your realistic goal weight before starting the Mommy Makeover process.

Still Considering Having Kids?

This is something you should consider if planning your Mommy Makeover.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change the results of your surgery, so you should postpone treatment until certain you are done having children.

If you are unsure, make sure to speak with your surgeon, as this really is a personal choice. You can still have the procedure done again in the future, but most patients only want to do it once.
