What Is Recovery Like the Day After a Facelift?

You’ll likely feel some discomfort the first day after your facelift — that is often unavoidable as you’ve just had surgery. Fortunately, many anesthetics used during your procedure will continue to help with pain relief during your initial hours of recovery.

Your plastic surgeon will prescribe you pain medication, which you can take to manage the pain. Additionally, you may have some bruising, swelling, and tightness around the neck. This is normal, including if the bruising or swelling seems more apparent on one side.

Rest is the most important thing during this first day. You’ll want to stay in bed so your body can save all its energy for healing. Make sure you arrange for someone to help out around the house. You’ll also need to keep your head elevated to reduce swelling.

What Is Recovery Like One to Two Weeks After a Facelift?

As your first week progresses, you’ll notice that you’re starting to feel better. You probably won’t need your pain medication anymore, and you may feel up to some light activity. Move if you can, but don’t push yourself. Only light walking is recommended until week two.

Expect tingling, numbness, or itching during the first two weeks as swelling subsides. This is a sign of your body healing.

At 10 to 14 days, you can often return to work and light duty activities. Those with highly strenuous jobs need to wait a bit longer.

What Is Recovery Like Six Weeks After a Facelift?

By week six, patients can resume vigorous exercise.

Note that you’ll be able to see the initial results of your procedure already, but it can take a little time for the final results to settle.

What Is Recovery Like Six Months After a Facelift?

By six months, you should be completely healed. You can do any activity you wish and see the full results of the facelift.
