Bra Sizing After Breast Augmentation

Immediately after breast augmentation surgery, you are instructed to wear a surgical garment to help provide support and comfort you breast need soon after surgery. Dr. Alexander will recommend this bra to be worn for approximatley 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. At that point, as long as you are well healed and have some sensation to the breast, you may be released to wear any bra of your choice! This should be a very exciting moment for you, but for some women it is not the highlight of post-implant delights.

There are multiple reasons as to why finding the “perfect” bra may be a little difficult after surgery. First off, breast implants are not real breasts, meaning some are fuller or rounder than natural breast tissue. Some breast implants provide a more forward projection or wider cleavage that some bras do not compensate for. Secondly, bra manufacturers vary in size and shape. Similar to other articles of clothing such as pants, you may be one size with one company and slightly differ with another.

So where is the good news? Most department stores offer a large variety of bra types. The actual number varies, but there has been close to 35 different styles of bras reported. This gives our post-op patients many different options! Dr. Alexander’s personal recommendation to our Las Vegas patients is to visit the third floor of Nordstrom’s, and meet with a professional bra fitter who can guide you to the right size with the correct fit! Most patients find themselves with greater self confidence and can appreciate the enhancement to their breasts and being able to fill out a bra in all the right places!
