Breast Augmentation Myth Busters
Myth:A certain amount of cc’s in a breast implant equals to a specific cup size
Fact: Most women come into Dr. Alexander & Co. requesting to have a specific bra cup size after their breast augmentation surgery. The truth is all bra manufacturers differ, making the “simple” request more complex than it seems. For example, look in your own pant drawer! Do you have multiple pairs of pants with different sizes, but still fit your body well? The sizing spectrum for clothing is extremely variable from one manufacturer to another. Plastic surgeons use a unit of volume, cubic centimeters (cc’s), which is a more precise measurement. The diverse amount of breast tissue each individual begins with makes it impossible to formulate a cc size to produce an exact cup size. Dr. Alexander has found that his Las Vegas patients appreciate the benefit of trying on a range of implant sizes at your consultation appointment. This will help you visualize and determine to select an implant size that is best for you!
Myth: Find a surgeon with breast augmentation discounts
Fact: There is a range of reasonable breast augmentation rates performed by board-certified plastic surgeons. Logically, there are expenses associated with using top quality doctors during your surgery and a baseline cost that cannot be bargained. A surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) performs in certified operating rooms with only board-certified anesthesiologists and uses FDA approved implants and products. You should never consider having elective breast surgery by someone who has not met this standard!!
Myth: The armpit incision choice is the best for hiding my breast augmentation scars
Fact: Although using the armpit approach may sound like it is in a hidden area, it is actually the only incision that you can see while wearing clothes. It does not leave an incision on the actual breast but does make it more difficult to create the implant pocket for natural movement and aesthetics. The periareolar incision, along the bottom of the nipple, is a better alternative to the armpit incision, but it is still the only incision that you can see while standing unclothed in a mirror. One of the most popular incision choices is in the natural crease of the breast called the inframammary fold. It is concealed in clothing while standing unclothed and allows for the most precise surgery and movement.
