COSMETIC SURGERY TRENDS 2010 VERSUS 2009: QUICK FACTS
In 2010 13.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed and the demand for plastic surgery rebound by almost 9%. This made a busy year for many doctors and patients, both men and women in the cosmetic world. Below is a recap of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Demographic Trends from 2010 provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Top Five Cosmetic Surgical Procedures for 2010 vs. 2009:
Breast Augmentation (Implants) 296,000 – 2% increase
Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping) 252,000 – 1% decrease
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) 209,000 – 3% increase
Liposuction (Body Contouring) 203,000 – 2% increase
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) 116,000 – 1% increase
- Since 2006, Breast Augmentation has ranked to be the top cosmetic surgical procedure.
- Silicone implants were preferred by 60% of the patients who had breast augmentation, a 10% increase compared to the previous year
- Patients between the ages of 40 – 54 years old make up the majority 48% of the total cosmetic procedures performed in 2010.
- In 2010, 91% of cosmetic procedures performed were on females, making men only responsible for 9% of cosmetic statistics.

- Faceliftsgained significant growth in 2010 with approximately 113,00 procedures performed. Facelifts have not experienced a growth since before the recession in 2007.
- Minimally invasive procedures such as Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) continues to be favored by many with an increase of 12% and soft tissue fillers (fat injections) rise 14%!
