Selecting a Bra After Breast Surgery

There are various types of bras for women to chose from all over Las Vegas and throughout the world. The bra was initially created to cover, support and elevate the breasts. Now they also help shape a woman’s figure.  The degree of shaping, coverage, and functionality vary widely. Most companies also offer an array of fabric, color, and fashion.

Just had breast augmentation, lift, or reduction and confused as to what bra style is best for your newly enhanced breasts? As promised from our last blog, we have created a summary of a few of the most common bra style options. Say goodbye to all of your training bras, minimizers, maternity, nursing, or extremely padded water bras and hello to variety styles to accentuate your new breasts.

Full Support Bra- This is a type of bra that has cups that cover the entire breast. The full support bra is designed to offer good support and is a practical bra for everyday wear.

The Demi- This bra has wide-set straps and horizontal bust line. With its half cup style, it enables low cut tops to be worn without the bra being exposed. The demi may come with or without an underwire providing some lift and support.

Sports Bra- This is for the athlete or for an individual with a high activity level. This garment is intended to provide maximum support to withstand vigorous exercise or movement. The sports bra provides firm support to prevent discomfort. It may come in the traditional should strap style or a racer back style which has the shoulder straps that come over the shoulder in a V pattern very close to the neck.

Soft Cup Bra- the soft cup bra has no underwire to support the cup of the breasts. For this particular bra, it is even more imperative that you are wearing the correct size because it relies on the strength of the underband to provide all of the support to the bust.

Many styles are created to be suitable for different social situations and to accommodate a wide range of clothing. These styles may include the bras with a convertible or no straps, the adhesive bras, a bra that is built into your shirt, a bra that has the closure clips in the front, or even the new trendy bandeau bra.

Dr. Alexander recommends to keep the following in mind when trying on a new bra:

  • The band should sit level along with your back
  • Your breasts should stay even while you are moving
  • No spillage! Your breasts should fit comfortably inside the cups
  • The center connector should touch the chest wall
  • Your straps should not dig into your should
  • The band around your rib cage should be supporting your breasts, not the straps!
